Croque Monsieur

Share

This is not quite the correct method for making Croque Monsieur, but it is really tasty, and very quick to make. If you wish to make more or less, just modify the quantities accordingly. I think it should be an early entry for the EoMEoTE.

Ingredients

  • 8 slices bread
  • 6 eggs
  • 100ml milk
  • 8 slices ham
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Herbs de Provence
  • Grated Emmenthal & chedder cheese (enough to cover the bread)

Directions

  • Place the bread on a greased baking tray
  • Put a slice of ham onto each piece of bread
  • Cover the bread with cheese
  • Wisk the eggs and milk (as for scrambled eggs), adding salt and pepper to taste
  • Pour the egg mixture onto the bread, ensuring that you cover well
  • Sprinkle with Herbs de Provence
  • Leave for about 10 minutes – to allow for the egg mixture to sink into the bread
  • Grill on high for about 10 minutes until it is nice and brown
  • Serve hot
