French Evening
Ok – so we have finally got around to organising our French evening. We are going to have about 20 people around to sample some of the wonderful foods of France. The ideas I am thinking of at the moment are:
- Steak Tartar (a good recipe please!)
- French Onion Soup (a good vegetarian recipe please!)
- Loads of different cheeses and baguettes
- french sausage (as in salami’s – not sure what the French name is, I think its called andouille?)
- Olives
- Pates
I am looking for other ideas, in particular food that can easily be served as finger food, especially some hot and cold dishes. Please give me your suggestions; the function is Saturday 17 Sep!
Please post your comments, suggestions and recipe’s – I’ll keep you updated as to progress.

Hi Craig
Mmmm, can I come to your French evenign please??? ;-)
I’ll have a look around for some recipes for you. Btw the generic term for French salami-style sausage is saucisson sec. Andouille is a very specific smoked sausage made from (amongst other things) intestines – meant to be very good, although I’ve never tried it!
Not really finger food, but you may want to try bouillebaisse – very French and great with your abundance of seafood in Cape Town and yuo can make huge quantities. Or how about mini croques monsieur?
You could do a lot worse than look at http://www.chocolateandzucchini.com – tons of fantastic French recipes on there and beautiful pictures of it too!
