Megan’s Easel – a plan for a child’s easel
For Christmas this year, my niece Megan is going to be getting a child’s easel from me. She has just turned two, and is starting to draw and paint. I looked on the net for a suitable plan, but I couldn’t really come up with something that I liked. So, I have designed my own easel, which is to a large extent a combination of what I found on the net, and the ideas I had in my head.
This particular easel has a few features that I like:
- It has a chalk-board on the one side, and a paint-board on the other side
- Two children can use it at the same time
- You can adjust the height of the boards, so the easel can grow as the child grows
- The chalk board has a built-in box for the chalk
- The paint board has a groove for pencils along the bottom – I will probably drill a few holes for paint pots into it as well
It should be very simple to assemble, it’s probably best to take the measurements to a hardware shop and get them to cut everything for you. I don’t think assembly will take more than an afternoon or so. I am probably going to route a simple corner on all outside edges, but I don’t think it is entirely necessary.
I will post a picture of the easel when it is complete. Please feel free to use or adapt the attached plan, and let me know how it turns out!

Can’t wait! She’s going to love it! Just make sure she can attach paper to it somehow to paint – with pegs or big paper clasps or whatever.
