Braaied Beef Fillet with mustard yoghurt dressing
What better way to spend a clear, windless (very rare in Cape Town) summer evening with our friends, than by having a braai* ? And of course, what better dish to braai than Beef fillet?
So, here it is – Braaied Beef Fillet with mustard yoghurt dressing.
The dressing is very tasty, yet it was extremely simple to prepare (it took about 5 minutes). Sorry that there are no photo, I got caught up in the evening (and wine), and forgot to take any photos.
Ingredients:
- 800g beef fillet (1/2 fillet). This should feed 3-4 people – depending on how much red meat you eat.
- 1 cup plain yoghurt
- 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
- 1/2 teaspoon hot English mustard (just to give a bit of a bite)
- 1/2 teaspoon sugar
- 50ml crushed black pepper (best to buy peppercorns and crush them yourself)
- 2 teaspoons dried herbs (use any yummy meat rub)
- Mix together the yoghurt, mustard and sugar.
- Pour the mixture over the fillet, ensuring that you cover it well.
- Sprinkle the crushed pepper and herbs all over the fillet, and rub it in a bit.
- Cook the fillet on hot coals for about 10 minutes per side, depending on how well done you like it.
- You can also keep some of the sauce on the side and serve it on the side with the cooked meat.
Hope you enjoy it!
