Bryan Adams – straight forward rock
Last night, Lois and I went to the Bryan Adams gig at Kirstenbosch. The tickets were courtesy of Ian and Judy (thanks guys!).
So we got there at about 6:00pm, allowing for plenty of time to have a relaxed picnic on the lawns, and to enjoy a glass of wine or three. I believe that the gig was sold out, and we did struggle to find a patch of grass, but it did not seem as busy as other concerts we have seen there (thankfully).
The gig started promptly at 8, and it was fantastic. The sound was fantastic (well done to the sound engineer!). Bryan (and Keith Scott) had a great stage presence. Even though I am not a huge fan, I knew most of the songs. It was a really straight forward – no bullshit rock gig. It is the second time Lois has seen him, and she said that it was much better this time (she saw him a few years ago in Durban).
One way I like to rate a band is to see how easy it would be for them to pick up their instruments, plug in at a local venue and play the same gig. Bryan Adams fitted this role perfectly. It would have been very easy to pick up their instruments, plug them in at Mercury and play a set.
There are only a few bands I have heard that can do that (Live and The Offspring come to mind). (In contrast Roger Waters puts on a great show but can ONLY play large venues)
Next time he come to SA – I think I am going to buy some tickets.
