The Scourge of Arial
May 10th, 2006I found a very interesting story about the history of the Arial font. I had no idea that there is such cloak and daggery in the artistic world. Arial “has a rather dubious history and not much character”, and is “little more than a shameless impostor”.
This story is a fascinating look into some of the history of Arial, Microsoft, Apple and Adobe. The is a particularly interesting story describing how Adobe’s attempt to keep core postscript technology to itself resulted in part in the creation of the Arial font.
Well worth a read.
ps: I found the original reference on Guy Kawasaki’s blog – a very interesting site.
