Notes from the Cape

Today is 5FM’s birthday, and they are only playing playlists submitted by callers. So far, I have heard Seether, ACDC, Skunk Anansi, Deep Purple, The Killers, and yes, even the inevitable Hotel California by The Eagles.

What is great is that everybody is calling in telling them what cool music they are playing, something which rarely happens. 5FM used to be a real rock station, but now they seem very unsure who their market is, so they try to cover all ‘youth’ audiences. This means that they play just about any geanre, so you will always like some (but very little) of what they play. So it’s great to hear some good rock for a change, and judging by the response, it is not only me that thinks so!

So, my appeal to 5FM is to go back to rock. It was clear this morning that your listeners are wanting it, and are listening to it!
