Working on (not at) my desk
I have been meaning to do some work in my study for quite some time. I am not referring to working at my desk, but to physically working on my desk. In other words, to designing and building a new work area, and to finding a system where everything on the desk has it’s place.
I also needed to get around to tidying some of the cables under the desk (I have to add that I have a small recording studio at home, so there are loads of audio, midi and power cables all over the place, and it is always a huge mess – see the ‘before’ pic on the right).
Anyway, I finally got around to designing a desk, creating a cutting list, getting to the hardware shop, and buying the wood (I could write a whole post on the level of service and quality I got at the hardward shop – let’s just say that I had to recut some of the wood, and some of the edging was incorrect as well – I will leave the rest for another post…).
I elicited the support of my brother-in-law James, who was a very willing and able helper. James helped to make a very big task take a lot quicker (thanks James) – James and I basically spent the weekend on the job – and I really think that it was worth the effort!
So here are the results – what do you think? I think that it’s pretty cool, I am very impressed with the job. There is so much less clutter, and it is so much tidier. Instead of a huge mess, it actually looks a little professional – I am really happy with the results.
Now, I need to get around to tidying the drawers…..:-)
