The Blue Man Group
August 9th, 2007Last night I went to see the Blue Man Group. Now this is probably the most impossible show to describe.
The show consists of three men on stage, dressed in black, bald with blue hands and faces. They have a full rock band backing them, complete with kit & two percussionists. I believe that they also use a Chapman Stick bass.
The show itself is a mixture of sound, light, art and comedy. They use bizarre musical instruments, such as trombones made out of PVC pipe, and home made percussive xylophones. They perform many experiments using paint, such as pouring luminous paint onto the drum skins while playing, and watching the paint fly all over the place. The coordination of lighting and sound is an absolute visual spectacle.
By my description it must sound a bit strange, but it was the most incredible show that I have ever seen – I really would love to see them again!
It was so good that I came home with a DVD of a concert, as well as a CD of some of the tracks they perform.
Thanks Rory and Lynne for suggesting that I go, and if you ever get an opportunity to see them – go!
