Happy New Year

Happy New year everybody. I hope that this year brings your wishes, dreams and hopes come true this year, and I hope that I get back on my feet soonest!

We had as very quite new years party last night – our neighbours Eric and Anja made a braai at their house, and then brought it across to eat at our house when it was ready – my first "take out braai". It was the first new year in ages that I have not seen the new year in, but at least I don’t have a hangover!

I am still stuck in bed after my unexpected back operation, but I am getting more mobile every day. The healing process is a long process, so patience is a virtue that I am rapidly learning. However, I am getting stronger every day.

On the bright side, I am “literally” learning to put my feet up and take some time out. I have taken the opportunity to catch up on my reading, and I have read about five books over the last two weeks, and I have many more lined up!

(Recently, I bought a Sony Book Reader on EBay, which is basically a small computer with a very high-quality screen specifically designed to read books on, and it arrived the day before my op – it has been a blessing – I have over 60 books on it at the moment, and I am using it every Day. I will write a more detailed review in the next few days.)

Sorry to hear that you are laid up. However, catching up on reading (and blogging) are great ways to be productive while you are there.

I don’t have a Sony Book Reader, but I have to tell you… I have had a palm handheld computer for the past 8 years with eReader installed on it. (www.ereader.com) In that time, I have purchased over 85 books to read. I even purchased a dictionary and a thesaurus. My last purchase was a set that included Blink & The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell, and Made to Stick by Chip & Dan Heath. The best part… because it is my Palm, I always have it with me. I can always pull it out, whether waiting in line or at the doctor’s office, to pick up were I left off.

    Hi Michael-

Thanks for the wishes (I slipped a disc that was causing huge pain and was not recovering – I needed a small op to remove the broken fragments – a few great speech coming from the whole experience -grin).

Bizarrely enough, the tipping point was the first book that I bought (remarkable book), and Blink is on my reader as well, but I have not read it yet, but at this rate I should read it by tomorrow.

    Craig
