A sea urchin that was given to my mother in law. I should have had something next to it to compare, because it was about 15 cm wide, one of the biggest that I have ever seen.
Chapman’s Peak during the Argus Cycle Tour. This most be one of the most beautiful roads to cycle on. If you look carefully, you can see the road covered in little ants, which are in fact the cyclists.
Day 87: Road closed (but not for me), originally uploaded by Craig is shooting.
Tomorrow many of the major roads in and around will be closed for the cycle tour. This sign is just before my house, with 88km still to go!
The best part of the race is that it is one day that cyclists own the road (all 35000 of us riding tomorrow). The total distance is about 109km, so please think of good weather, no wind and fast hills.
One of my favourite wine shops was having a wine-tasting and a huge sale today. So we went along to stock up on wine.
As you can see in the picture, many of the wines are unlabeled, or with just basic labeling. This is not because of quality, they are all suburb wines, but often end of runs or left over export wines.
Having made wine on one of our wine farms, I can assure you that often the farms have to literally dump wine to make space for new bottling, and they will sell them for anything to get rid of them. But they don’t want their own labels on it because it undercuts the retail value of the wine.
You can check them out yourself if you like – www.getwine.co.za. I have often ordered online from them, and they are fast with their delivery. I have never had a bad wine from them.
The Argus cycle tour is in three days, and today I had to go to the expo to collect my number and start card. It was quite exciting to be around so much cool cycling stuff, and to feel the energy of the fellow cyclists just before the race.
The race, which is just over 109km, attracts approx 35000 cyclists. I believe that it is the largest timed sporting event in the world, but I cannot confirm that.
Looking forward to Sunday.
Clouds clearing at the end of a rainy day, just as the sun is about to set.
I have been missing avocado, and it is so good to see them slowly starting
to come back into season. So, an avocado sandwiche for lunch today.
Somebody paddeling on Zandvlei early in the morning on a very still day. The
temperature ended up peaking at about 38 deg C (about 100 deg F).
