This vuvuzela has been sitting on top of the unfinished bridge for quite some time now. It was built by Hyundai as a promotion for the FIFA world cup tournament which South Africa recently held.

It is approximately 53m long (112 feet), and was blown as a call to action to go and watch the game before each match.

I hope that they leave it there as a reminder of a great month, and of course it finally puts the bridge to good use!

This picture of Cape Town Stadium was taken about 7 hours before the kickoff of the match between Germany and Argentina.

I was spoiled to a helicopter trip over Cape Town by Lois and my dad for my birthday, and we were very lucky to be able to fly almost directly over the stadium.

I don’t know how we managed to fly over a FIFA stadium on match day, but I am not going to complain :-)

So this is what the inside of the stadium looks when it is empty (I have finally seen the inside of a stadium). I think it is a stunning building. Here is a more detailed view.

By the way, Germany won the match 4-0.

This scene is taken from the top end of Long Street, just before the soccer match between Bafana Bafana and Uruguay. Sadly, it was not a good day for South Africa; we were beaten 3-0.

Love them or hate them, they have become the unofficial musical instrument of South Africa, and integral to the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Personally, I find them noisy and anti-social, but despite myself I love them!

Viva South Africa.

A Bafana Bafana fan supporting the team at the fanpark in Belville. Bafana Bafana drew with Mexico 1-1. I went to the fan Park yesterday to watch the festivities before the match, and the match itself. It was crowded and noisy, yet one of the most friendly and exciting environments that I have ever been in. It was like a massive group of friends getting together to party!

The traders on the street are doing a roaring trade, with lines of cars stopping on the side of the road, hoping to still buy a flag or supporters shirt.

We are going to have a great game, and we are going to show that Africa can put on a great show!
