Mince pies for luck
In some traditions, it is considered good luck to eat a mince pie every day for the 12 days before Christmas, and even luckier to eat each pie in a different home. In my family it is far more simple.
Every mince pie eaten before Christmas gives you a month’s good luck.
So the more you eat, the better your luck (assuming they don’t kill you from a heart attack). Of course eating 12 pies guarantees your luck for the next year. To continue this nonsensical and superstitious tradition, I ate my first mince pie of the season last night; like I need an excuse to eat a mince pie. It was supplied by my friend Sandra, and baked by her husband.
Ok to tell the truth, my luck is guaranteed for at least the next two months, and I am bound to have a little more luck coming my way soon.
Enjoy the pies :-)
Happy Christmas
The table has been set, the food is cooking, and the family will be arriving in just a couple of hours for a Christmas-Eve dinner. I hope that you all have a wonderful Christmas filled with friendship, love and happiness. When you pull your Christmas crackers, I hope they bring wonderful memories for the future.
Thank to for reading my blog, and a special thank you for the many comments, it is always nice to know that you are enjoying my views of Cape Town.
Happy Christmas!
It’s Christmas Time
We had dinner at Cavendish Square this evening for my Dad’s birthday. I should not have been surprised to notice that the Christmas Decorations are out in full force. I suppose that considering that is less than a month to go until Christmas it should have been expected.
Cavendish Square are being rather tasteful this year with their decorations; the center is fulled with subdues fairy lights, twinkling against delicate silver decorations. It is a wonderful change from the garish Christmas trees and over sided plastic reindeer. I hope that I am not surrounded by too many Boney M Christmas Carols.
I would rather hear the Psycho Reptiles – Psycho Christmas song, or some good rock versions of Christmas Songs.
Dad, Happy Birthday today. And everybody else. I hope you have a good Christmas season!
