Kalk Bay Harbour

My previous shot was of the drying snoek. There is a fair chance that the snoek was caught off a boat that left from this harbour early in the morning.

Aside from the fishing boats, the harbour wall still has many line fishermen using the harbour wall to fish from. While it looks like this fisherman was taking a break on his phone, you can see his fishing rod pushed into a whole made for the purpose, and there is a line cast in the water.

Cape Town International Airport

Well not quite; I am almost ready to leave on a jet plane for my trip to Spain, but not just yet. This morning Lois left to East London to run a training session, so after I dropped her at the airport I took the opportunity to get a quick shot of the terminal in the quiet of the early morning. Next time I am at the airport should be for my trip!

This shot was inspired by this shot by Trey Ratcliff of Barcelona Airport, perhaps I will get a similar shot when I am there next month.

Masey Ferguson tractor

Yes I know, I simply cannot help myself. If I see a tractor I simply have to take a photo of it. I still think that they have so much character, especially the old ones that clearly have such a story to tell. In fact when my friend Dawn saw the shot, she said

…our ancient most beloved Masey Ferguson tractor

And she is right. This old girl (and yes this tractor is a girl – at least I say so) looks like she has literally been around the block a few times. I am glad that she is in good hands now with Dawn and Roger, making a small contribution to their amazing spirits at Jorgensen’s Distillery.

Road stripper

To my utter surprise, the re-tarring of Main Road is complete, and on time as well! Considering that the section between Muizenberg and Kalk Bay is about 2 years behind schedule, I never thought that they would manage to complete the section in Lakeside in the promised two weeks, but somehow they did. Well done to the contractors.

For my last post, I posted the other end of this strange-looking machine, well here is (I think) the front, or possibly the back. It is a little difficult to tell. But what seems to happen is that it drives over the tar and rips it up, and then convey’s it along the conveyor belt at the back to drop into a nearby truck.

It’s a little scary seeing these guys in action, and to think about a machine that is powerful enough to just rip apart a road like a piece of jelly, but that is basically what this guy does. A great deal of respect please.

Strange road machine

I am not quite sure what this machine is used for, but I think that it is to strip old roads before a fresh layer of tar is added, but is just a guess. I do however know that this machine has something to do with roads, it (and its friends) has been driving up and down Main Road for the last few days, resurfacing the road.

And for the first time in history, this crew are working quickly. They are over half way, and the road  looks set to be freshly tarred well within the promised two weeks.

Old Truck

This is the last of the shots from the recent Classic car expo (unless I find anymore that I have missed). I love the classic feel to this old truck, complete with wooden spokes and the wishbone suspension. If you scratched around in the bed of the truck, you could find all manner of interesting things, including old car radios, speedometers, wires and random tools.

The truck is still licensed and in running order, I am glad that somebody is looking after it.

Christine

Two more of the classic cars, these old beauties remind me of the evil car in Stephen King’s novel Christine – the car that killed people.

Classic car

This lovely old car was shot at the classic car expo yesterday. I took tons of photos, so watch the blog for more to follow.

This is the second of my posts from the Ink & Skin expo, some very cool bikes and choppers.

There are two groups of people in the world. Those that ride Harley Davidson, and those that won’t.
