Birds landing

Cds MG 0177There is a tiny lagoon on the beach, just opposite the landfill on Baden Powell drive which I often drive past. In the morning it is covered in Seagulls and small birds enjoying the shallow waters.

Today I stopped to take a pic of them, and I gaught this show of the two birds fighting (or possibly mating). I really don’t know Seagulls too well, but they constantly literally flying into each other and almost chasing each other away.

It was an interesting site, and I think it makes quite a nice photo.

Eric the Accordion player

Cds MG 0146My Friend Eric (aka Smokkel). You can find him playing the accordion pretty much anywhere that he can, but in particular at the various village festivals around Cape Town. Eg Bastille festival in Franschhoek and the Olive Festival in Riebeek Kasteel.

From time to time you will see Eric jamming at my house (and even with me on the bass on occasion).

People walking on the harbour wall at Kaly Bay Harbour

Cds MG 0100

People walking along the harbour wall in Kalk Bay. In the front of them you can see the lights of the Harbour Hourse restaurant complex. You can also just make out Fish Hoek beach on the top left.

I was going to the Harbour House for dinner, but I went there a little earlier with my camera, so I also managed to get this shot of one of the fishing boats. You can see Kalk Bay main road in the background, with Cape to Cuba (a great restaurant) just behind the harbour.

Arum Lily

Cds MG 0012
The Arum Lily is one of those flowers that appears almost overnight all over Cape Town in winter. Ground that was just tall grass and fynbos suddenly comes alive with fields and fields of these large and sturdy flowers.

They are big and beautiful, and they last for ever. Please note that it is illegal to pick arum lilies 50m from a road and you need permission from the land owner. Most arums for sale in our city are picked and sold illegally.

These shots were take on the side of Baden Powell drive. Just drive down the road and you will see them everywhere.
