When we arrived in our apartment in Athens, we found that a section of one of the walls had been turned into a chalk board shopping list. Except that instead of a shopping list, we saw the recipe for a Greek Salad. We had eaten plenty of them by the time we arrived, but now we had a real recipe from a real Greek host in Athens.
How to make a Greek salad
- 2 tomatoes
- 1 cucumber
- 1 onion
- 1 green pepper
- feta cheese
- black olives
- olive oil
- salt, oregano & pepper
- mix and enjoy!
Here’s how it looks!
For Christmas dinner, we had a “light” meal of coronation chicken, rice salad, rolls and this amazing prawn and avo starter. Who needs to goto a restaurant when your family will serve you fresh prawns?
My sister Sally made the entire meal, including this yummy starter. I think I will be eating at her house more often.
(Notes from the Cape in Johannesburg)
Now this is my kind of starter, two of my favourite foods, avocado and biltong. Avocados are finally back in season and for sale at a reasonable price. I am convinced that they have the most variable price of any consumer good (from about R2 each in season to about R25 each out of season). And biltong is our version of Jerky, basically dried meat.
We were served this meal at the Toastmasters conference in Johannesburg. The best part is that there was nobody sitting on my right, so I got two starters :-)
