Cds 135 steamtrain

An old steam engine at Gold Reef City in Johannesburg that has been restored (at least to look nice and bright, I doubt that it still goes). I still like the bright colours.

The steam train came past just as I was arriving home from my morning run yesterday. It is great that there are still people enthuastic about keeping little pieces of the age of steam alive. If you want to go for a ride, chat to Atlantic Rail.

Ok so sometimes you just have to go a little over the top with your processing…this is a photo of my car’s father from Poland.

The Sedov arrives in Cape Town for the first time in 77 years, and I just happened to be in the V&A Waterfront today to get some shots.

And here is some detail of the rigging, imagine having to untangle that lot.

These shots were taken at the Silver Falcons anniversary celebration on Friday. I was lucky enough to attend and to get shots of them in action.

Cape Town

On Friday, I was privileged to be at the 45’th birthday celebration of the Silver Falcons. Because it was a very small gathering I was allowed to get really close and experience the spectacular ability of these amazing pilots.

This is a Top Gun type of shot, but the difference is that these guys are the real deal.

Today’s picture is much closer to home. It was shot about 9 months ago at a car show, and I was never happy with how I processed it.

While I would love to shoot this again without all the other cars and people in the background, I am much more happy with this version.

Whenever I look at an old car like this, I wonder where it came from, what sort of life did it live, and what stores can it tell?

I almost got chased by a farmer on a tracter when shooting this shot. I was driving down a back road near Puigcerda in the Pyrenees when I saw some old and broken down farm buildings.

I had to stop and investigate, and was promptly confronted by a farmer in a huge tractor demanding to know what I was doing, no doubt on his land.

Once he realized I was a crazy foreigner with a camera he decided I was not a threat and just drove off (or perhaps he went to get reinforcements; I never did find out).

So I took a few shots as quickly and got out of there just in case the reinforcements were on their way. I like this shot of the trailer, and while it still looks pretty serviceable, I like the colouring the late afternoon sun gives to the shot.

Torre Jaume I is the midway tower on the Barcelona Cableway. The cableway was built in 1929 and I am convinced that all the original parts are still being used. It is old, rickety and a little scary, but hugely fun in a retro kind of way.

This tower is 107 meter high, and is the midpoint of the cable car. In theory, you can climb out and stand on the observation platform, but our car went straight past. It still gives you a great view of Barcelona and the harbour area, but a one-way trip is probably sufficient.

The Titanic

No really, the name of this boat is the Titanic. While this boat did not sink, she has clearly beached herself. I don’t think she is going to be going out anytime soon.
