Sedona

When we were in Arizona we took a road trip from Phoenix to the Grand Canyon. One of the towns we drove through was Sedona, which is a truly beautiful yet somewhat bohemian town, full of artists and hippies. B ut the landscape is spectacular. These bright magnificent red rocks shoot into the air from the desert, and they are spectacular to look at.

We were just driving past, but I would love to spend some time there exploring the trails and mountains in the area, it was such a lovely place. I am sure it will be the perfect place for some trail running (but not in summer; it can get above 40 degrees in the heat of the day).

Arabian Desert

Something you have to do if you spend a few day in Dubai is to go for a desert excursion. Most of the excursions follow the same pattern. A 4×4 collects you from your hotel, you drive around and explore the desert for a bit. Then you have dinner at an outdoor restaurant where you enjoy (somewhat) traditional food and dancing, and have the option of a camel ride.

While the trip is a little touristy, the Arabian Desert is really beautiful, and it’s cooler than the city! The desert sunsets are magnificent, with beautiful golden colours as the sun touches the sand, and the heat of the day drops into a cooler evening.
